A large and handsome household shrine which appears to be rosewood, certainly of the mahogany family of woods, with an incredible patina to its paneled surface. The interior consists of a shelf to support the diety over a second shelf and drawers to house ritual items, etc. The interior painting appears to be of a later date, and is of strange birds and florals. From an estate in northern Va, I suspect it was last used to house a large tv, or as an entertainment center. It would serve beautifully as a wardrobe as well. Dimensions are 102″h x 54″w x 23″d.

A crisp, clear original photo, probably silver gelatin, 10.5″x14″, laid down on board, of Paul Smith. In fine condition, it is autographed and dated Oct.5, 1904. I am told this image has not been seen before. Smith was a fabulously successful entrepreneur who purchased and developed that area of the Adirondack Mountains that now bears his name. A far sighted real estate genius, he committed to creating recreational facilities which offered luxury accommodations, fine dining, boating, hunting, entertainment and every convenience, all in the beautiful Adirondack Mountains.Guests at Paul Smith Hotel were many of the rich and famous of the day and included four presidents. His amazing story is told in “The Biography and Funny Sayings of Paul Smith” by Geraldine Collins, a Librarian of Paul Smith”s College. The photographer could be Henry M.Beach.

Three part American Federal dining table in the Hepplewhite style consisting of a center dropleaf supported by four stable and two swing legs. Two half round tables complete the table. This design first appeared in England, became popular for it’s versatility, and continued in use in America and England well into the 19thc. There is extensive string inlay along the edge and the perimeter of the top as well as in the veneered panels of the skirt. Because of this, and the lavish use of pictorial inlays , the shape of the line inlay on the leg, and the secondary woods, one tends to attribute it to Maryland, perhaps Baltimore, The table has an old refinish. There are repairs to shrinkage in the skirt, leg, and minor mahogany loss at a hinge point on a rule joint. Hinges are original. c 1790-1820. Size center 48 1/4 w.
59″l. each board panel measures 20″. Each half round table is 26 1/2″ x 48″w.
