Mahogany card table

This mahogany games table is an  American classical transitional Sheraton-Empire piece. Origin is New York, c.1830. Made from wide, flame grain mahogany boards imported from Santo Domingo , and with tapered “rope” turned legs with inverted acanthus capital carving, it makes a simple, elegant, very American statement! The fold-over top can be opened to create a  38″ x39″ card table, the top supported by one rear swing leg. The top swivels to reveal a storage compartment within.
